Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world with its 8,511,965 km2. From North to South it mesures 4,320 km and from East to West 4,328 km.Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on East, its cost has 9,000 km. On West, Brazilis bordered by Spanish-speaking South America Countries. Brazilian language is Portuguese.
Brazil is divided in five regions: North, Northeast, Southeast, South and Central West.
The North Region makes up almost half of all Brazil's territory. Its area is almost entirely covered by the broad expanse of the Amazon Rain Forest. This region is made up of seven states: Amazonas, Para, Acre, Rondonia, Roraima, Amapa and Tocantins.
The Northeast Region is a true paradise with a rich folklore tradition that mixes the history and beliefs of colonizers and slaves. Hundred of baroque churches coexist in harmony with the most varied rituals of African origin. This region is made up of nine states: Maranhao, Piaui, Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia.
The Southeast Region is the main gateway to Brazil. It is site of the two largest cities in the country - Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro - offering a world-class comwork of hotels, restaurants, transportation and service. The Southeast also provides a rich historical setting with fascinating museums and colonial towns as well as beautiful natural landscapes. This region is made up of four states: Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo.
The South Region is the only region in Brazil where the four seasons are clearly defined. A strong European influence can be felt throughout the region due to a wave of immigration in the 19th
century that brought many Germans, Italians, Poles, forming a very special culture. This region is made up of three states: Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The Central West Region is made up of three states: Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goias and the Federal District where is Brazil's capital - Brasilia. And where is the Pantanal marshlands. The flora and fauna have been preserved in the region, a veritable ecological sanctuary with the largest variety of birds in the world. Jaguars, alligators, tapirs and peccaries populate the Pantanal, providing fascinating sights and sounds. Another attractions for visitors are Araguaia River and the natural pools of warm water in the cities of Goias.
